Left parties protest against hike in fuel, LPG prices in Andhra Pradesh

The Left parties in Andhra Pradesh on Thursday held a protest against the rising price of LPG, petrol and diesel.

The protesters were detained by the police.

The party leaders demanded that the state government should immediately reduce the value-added tax (VAT) and impose Goods and Services Tax (GST) on petrol and diesel.

The protest was observed in all 13 districts of the state.

In Vijayawada, petrol was sold at Rs 115.35/litre (power 117.64) on Thursday, while diesel was sold at Rs 108.10 Rs in Srikakulam. A gas cylinder currently costs Rs 966 in Andhra Pradesh.

Andhra Pradesh collects 31 per cent VAT on petrol along with an additional levy of Rs 4, while VAT on diesel is 22.25 per cent plus an additional levy of Rs 4.
